About: An animal rights activist originally from Bulgaria, who currently lives in Ukraine and rescues animals from the frontline. I studied and worked in Germany and Austria with NGOs focused on human rights and later animal rights work. Founder and director of Cat Space Ukraine, an organisation dedicated to evacuating and rehabilitating non-human animals at the Ukrainian frontline, with a special focus on cats suffering from stress and trauma.

Presentation — Animal Agency Amid War: Non-Human Animals Rescue in Ukraine

The talk explores animal evacuation missions from Ukraine’s frontline, focusing on the psychological trauma non-human animals endure and their recovery. Petya will share insights from a cat-rehabilitation project, the first Ukrainian sanctuary for cats with PTSD, and a goat-rescue initiative—highlighting how animals rebuild trust after war. The talk will also critique International Humanitarian Law for ignoring non-human vulnerability in conflict zones.
