About: In 2021, Armando co-founded a coffee grounds collection initiative and zero-waste food garden called Horta Harmonia. He restored a nearly two-decade dormant plot of land - using regenerative practices - where he now grows most of his own food. He has diverted over 10 tons of coffee grounds from the landfill and used them to create rich compost to demonstrate the possibility of avoiding fossil-fueled fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. His ultimate goal is to promote and develop systems of sovereignty and positive ecological and social impact for all animals, including humans.
Presentation — Food Sovereignty and Zero Waste Veganic Food Garden
Armando will share his experience with achieving food and seed sovereignty and the process of growing his own food veganically. He will tell his story about how, in just 4 years, he has saved over 10 tons of coffee grounds from going to landfill and, instead, used them to create compost and grow food. He will encourage participants to think critically, have hard conversations, expose the hidden animal products used to grow plants and produce, and examine morally ambiguous decions about vegan capitalism. You will leave the workshop ready to grow your own food!
